It's been said that "yoga is not about touching your toes; it's about what you learn on the way down." Jen Helfer approaches her teaching as a sacred, shared learning experience where students are free to nurture the skills of inner listening and embodied movement. In class, together, the Yoga mat becomes a familiar and fertile landscape for our own playfulness, exploration and growth. It is her goal to inspire a curiosity and enthusiasm for the practices of Yoga that lingers even after we share our final "OM".

More than twenty years ago, in her tiny Eastlake living room in Seattle, the seeds of her personal Yoga practice and studies took root—by way of a Rodney Yee and Patricia Walden VHS tape, no less!  Over time, through each state of her being and stage of her life, she continues to trust the practice and return to her mat.  Jen received her 200-Hour RYT Certification from Seattle Yoga Arts in 2018.  She’s currently pursuing her 500-Hour Advanced Teacher Certification at SYA, where she’s chosen to specialize in Restorative, Gentle, and Accessible Yoga.  

In addition to her remarkable teachers at SYA and Two Dog Yoga, Jen is also honored to study Restorative Yoga with Judith Hanson Lasater, Accessible Yoga with Jivana Heyman, and Sustainable Yoga with Brea Johnson.  She likewise draws inspiration from the teachings of Peter Blackaby, Rodney Yee, Jo Tastula, Jason Crandell, Elena Brower, and Carol Krucoff. 

Her life’s passions include not only Yoga, but also motherhood, partnership, and all things art, music, and theatre. A performing artist at heart, she holds a degree in both Theatre and Music (Acting/Vocal Performance)—which inevitably (and joyfully!) sneaks its way into her teaching.  As RuPaul put it so colorfully, “Life is about using the whole box of crayons.”
