About Annie

Annie Stocker, owner of Two Dog Yoga, first discovered yoga while traveling and studying in Southeast Asia in 1980. This extraordinary trip was filled with immersive experiences in Fiji, New Guinea, Indonesia and Sri Lanka changed her life and was the seed of inspiration to follow a unique path of health and healing. In Sri Lanka, Annie was instantly drawn to the quiet strength and depth in yoga and meditation traditions, and felt the deep grounding that a practice of physical, mental and energetic commitment offers. Since then, the practice and teaching of yoga has been fundamental to her lifelong study of health and well-being.

For many years, the strength and precision of Iyengar yoga was Annie's focus. During this time, she studied with Felicity Green, Judith Lasater and Ramanand Patel. Starting in 2000, Annie focused her studies on the teachings of Sarahjoy Marsh and Doug Keller – and their deep understanding of yoga philosophy and the importance of a yogis’ practices being integrated into community care and action. She completed a 500-hour Registered Yoga Therapy training with Sarahjoy Marsh in Portland Oregon in 2018.

Annie’s fascination with anatomy and physiology, her passion for the natural world and its rhythms, and her pull towards rigorous and compassionate self-study inspire her yoga practice and teaching.

For over 35 years, Annie has also offered individual healing massage sessions, as part of her bodywork practice.  Her extensive and varied trainings in massage therapy has provided an anchor in both her yoga teaching and bodywork practice.

Annie is the parent of two young adults, now off on their own wild life journeys, who were born and raised in her home in Lake City. As a seasoned and passionate gardener, Annie loves welcoming students and clients to her garden sanctuary ‘Little Dog’ for private sessions, workshops and events. This home studio has been crafted over many years as a place of healing. It is a place conducive to soaking in the natural beauty of the earth and the possibility of greater ease and flow and joy.

Poetry has long been a touchstone for Annie's own personal growth and she loves to share words of wisdom in form of poetry in her classes to remind us of the way the natural world's rhythms and expressions can be our guide inside and outside on our path. She's a big fan of John O'Donohue, Mary Oliver, Danna Faulds and David Whyte.

Chair Yoga is my safe space and my go-to for a weekly connection with myself and community for many years. Chair Yoga has taught me how to be comfortable in my body and how to use movement and breath to find ways to get around in my daily life. It helps me keep my perspective grounded and simple, even as life gets more challenging. I’m very thankfuI I can touch base every week for wise words from Annie and lessons in movement that help me stay active and connected.

Annie brings years of bodywork experience and anatomical knowledge, guiding us safely into each pose. Every class is thoughtfully sequenced to prepare and warm up for poses later in the class. That same care is present whether we’re practicing online or in person. While the physical practice has improved my health in many ways, what’s made the most positive difference in my daily life is the way Annie weaves in breathwork, meditation, and a higher sense of physical awareness into every class. With Annie’s teaching, yoga practice has become a joy, a relief from the everyday world, a way to calm my nervous system, and improve my health. It’s a moment to take a deep breath in connection with others and explore the ways we can think about being our best selves.

“Annie knows the body like Beethoven plays the piano – with a deep, intuitive presence, and an ease that also feels grounding and light at the same time. There is safety and a clear respect for boundaries around the physical, emotional and spiritual realms with a studio that holds it all in such beauty and simplicity. A listening and acceptance of the body is what matters. The sanctuary garden that surrounds the studio is a testament to the nourishment received during body work – massage or yoga – with Annie. She is a master of her art and a wellspring of healing.”

Annie’s gifted massage practice has been an important and integral part of my healthcare regimen for many  years.  I first met Annie when she gave regular massages to my beloved  mother when my mother was close to my current age of late 70’s.   Annie has also given comforting massages to the next generation of women in my family when they were pregnant, and they needed to trust their bodies to an experienced caring person who who has training and  expertise and  truly knows and cares about women’s bodies during that important time.

“Annie has been an integral part of my health and wellness process for 25+ years, starting with attending her yoga classes to monthly massage sessions.  She has been so helpful with specific feedback via both yoga sessions and massage sessions on what I can do to help my body heal and deal with any ailments I may have.  She is very knowledgeable about all aspects of the body and I appreciate her ayurvedic and holistic approaches to accomplishing wellness. “

Annie’s presence is profoundly grounding. Every time I walk into the space,  I feel safe, seen and supported.   Her touch is intuitive and her ability to listen – not just with her ears, but with her whole being – is a gift.  Whether it’s through massage or a yoga session I always walk away feeling more whole, connected and at peace.  What she offers isn’t just physical relief ( though that is incredible too ) it’s energetic, emotional, and spiritual healing. That is sacred.”

“I have taken yoga classes, in-person and online, at Two Dog Yoga since before the pandemic. In addition, I have regularly received massages from Annie since 2016. Because Annie‘s work grows from her long-time and ongoing personal practice, it is deep, intentional and profoundly transformative. Annie intuitively knows how to support both my body and my soul. As a result of my time in yoga classes and on her massage table, I am more grounded, I experience greater peace of heart and mind, and I feel stronger and more resilient. Her nurturing work is especially valuable during these turbulent times. I highly recommend Annie as both a yoga instructor and a massage therapist.”
